Top European Golf Courses in the Algarve
The British golfer’s magazine “Today’s Golfer” has published its list of the top 100 ‘Best Golf Resorts in Europe’ for 2022, 12 Algarve golf resorts made the list.
The Algarve was awarded the best golf destination in the world in 2020 by the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) and now 12 courses are in the top 100.
Quinta do Lago, the region’s top luxury resort, is the highest-placed Algarve golf resort in 6th place, followed by the Dom Pedro resort in Vilamoura in 14th place.
Algarve’s Monte Rei (Tavira) and Amendoeira (Alcantarilha) both appeared in the top 30, being placed 24th and 26th, respectively.
The other Algarve golf resorts that made the top 100 list included Penina (Portimão) in 35th, Quinta da Ria (Tavira) in 36th, Palmares (Lagos) in 39th, Pine Cliffs (Albufeira) in 50th, Vila Sol (Vilamoura) 63rd, Vale do Lobo (Loulé) 78th, Salgados (Albufeira) 88th and Morgado (Portimão) 93rd.
The title of the best golf resort in Continental Europe went to Costa Navarino in Greece, with France’s Terre Blanche and Italy’s Verdura trailing in second and third.
The magazine ranked the golf courses based on four categories, including the golf courses (which accounted for 40% of the final score), accommodation (20%), setting (20%) and non-golf amenities (20%).

Quinta do Lago wins Best Golf Course in Europe
Quinta do Lago’s South Course has again been crowned as the Best Golf Course in Portugal and Europe by the World Golf Awards (WGA).
This award comes after an investment of €7 million concluded at the end of the summer of 2019, with the aim of elevating the gaming experience and improving the resort’s environmental credentials.
“Winning this award is a testament to the entire golf staff and operations team for providing a fantastic experience for golfers from all over the world,” Reported the Quinta do Lago Resort.
The World Golf Awards were created to celebrate and reward excellence in golf tourism, world-class courses and golf destinations. They are part of the World Travel Awards, often described as the ‘Oscars’ of the tourism sector.
